the ages of 10 and 18. The important thing
to remember is that it doesn't matter what
age you start to develop, it won't affect
how you are as an adult.

ways as you start to mature.

 Your:

And Finally...Keeping Safe

The hormonal and physical changes that happen as part of puberty mean that physically you are able to have a child.  You may or may not be ready to have sex, and it’s entirely up to you when and where you have sex.  Some things to think about before you do are:

  • If you are having unprotected sex you are very likely to get pregnant so sort out your contraception first – it’s free from Choices or your GP and there are a number of options available so you can pick the one that suits you best.
  • Don’t have sex until you’re absolutely sure it’s what you want.
  • Guys who put pressure on you or insult you aren’t worth it – ditch them
  • All women can and should enjoy sex with the right person at the right time.
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex during your period
  • You could get pregnant your first time
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex standing up
  • Sperm can live inside you for 7 days!

Keeping safe is also about protecting you and your partner from sexually transmitted infections.  It’s about being responsible in a relationship, so...always use a condom.  There are NO excuses, so here are few tips:

  • Condoms are free from Choices’ services
  • Make sure it has a British Kitemark or CE Mark and it’s not out of date before you use it
  • There’s no harm in practising using them at home – the more confident you feel about using them the safer you are likely to be
  • There are instructions with every condom
  • Be careful when you take it out of the wrapper – don’t use your teeth and watch your nails!
  • Dispose of it thoughtfully – wrap it up and put it in the bin, not down the toilet
  • Remember that you are worth protecting and so is your partner!
